Notplace, or Nowhere #1.

Whilst in Manchester I picked up a second hand copy of Thomas More’s 1512 book ‘Utopia’, translated from the original Latin in 1965 by Paul Turner. I knew nothing of the book, but having become decidedly iffy about the word Utopia, owing to its 20th century associations with fascism and some of the more extreme ideals of modernism, I thought it would give it a spin. Learning that Utopia translates as ‘not place’ seemed apt fuel for  a show I am working on with Bogota based artist Jaime Tarazona.
